Fire Prevention Week Awards Announced

Winners of the Chattanooga Fire Department's Fire Prevention Week Contests
The Chattanooga Fire Department held its annual Fire Prevention Week Awards Ceremony Monday morning at the Fire Training Center. With Mayor Ron Littlefield, Fire Chief Randy Parker and Fire Marshal David Brooks presiding, prizes were awarded to the winners of the fire safety quiz and the poster contest.

The fire safety quiz was given to students in grades K-5 at public and private schools in Chattanooga. The winners for each grade answered all of the multiple choice questions about fire safety correctly and came the closest to guessing the number of alarms the department responded to during the course of Fire Prevention Week. Each winner received a brand new bicycle.

The bicycle contest winners were:

Kindergarten
Girl: Shelby Brown; Berean Academy
Boy: Aaron Pendry; Berean Academy

1st Grade
Girl: Jordan Price; Chattanooga Christian School
Boy: Landon Lewis; Chattanooga Christian School

2nd Grade
Girl: Elizabeth Van Deusen; St. Peter’s Episcopal School
Boy: Jaquail Postell; Hardy Elementary

3rd Grade
Girl: Kadijah Tinker; Lookout Valley Elementary
Boy: Justin Lee Richardson; Chattanooga Christian School

4th Grade
Girl: Emily Hauke; Boyd Buchanan School
Boy: Damauri Garner; Chattanooga Christian School

5th Grade
Girl: Moriah Bennett; Red Bank Elementary
Boy: Kelton Baker; Hixson Elementary

In the poster contest in grades 6-12, each student best illustrated the theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week, which was “Stay Fire Smart! Don’t Get Burned.” The winners received gift cards from Wal Mart.

The poster contest winners are listed below, starting with individual grade winners and ending with the overall winners:

7th Grade ($20): Sarah Keller; Boyd Buchanan

8th Grade ($20): Amanda Conner; Chattanooga Christian Middle School

9th Grade ($20): Brittany Keef; Hixson High School

10th Grade ($20): Darren Terrell; Hixson High School

11th Grade ($20): Abdul Sheikh; Hixson High School

12th Grade ($20): Lauren Skipper; Hixson High School

Overall Winners

3rd Place ($50): Lydia Wharton; 6th Grade – Chattanooga Christian Middle School

2nd Place ($75): Stephanie Hill; 11th Grade – Hixson High School

1st Place ($100): Lauren Robinson; 8th Grade – Chattanooga Christian Middle School

Best of Show ($135): Keylee Jones; 10th Grade – Hixson High School
