Sunday our daughters were at the Bijou 7 Theatre for the “This Is It” Michael Jackson movie. I got a call from our youngest daughter around 5:30 p.m. to tell me not to be alarmed. The girls just sat down in the theatre. They had not been in the theatre long before our oldest daughter realized that her purse had been stolen from underneath her seat.
She went to get the manager of the Bijou while her sister stayed in the theatre. While sitting in the theatre she heard the door open after her sister had left. She got up to check on her sister. When she exited the theatre she caught out of the corner of her eye a utility door shutting. She alarmed the manager.
They checked the utility room to find my daughter’s purse. But the young man decided to steal her wallet, the money from her sister’s wristlet and her camera. He left the purse. This young man crawled on the floor at the theatre to get her purse. The thief has not been found.
The manager of the Bijou and police officer were very helpful in filing a police report. The young man who snatched her purse purchased a ticket for a movie.
But as a member of the community I felt that I should alarm all of the downtown visitors to watch out for the “purse snatcher” at the Bijou. This has happen in the past. With the Bijou closing this week, he might carry this over to the new theatre.
