He was preceded in death by his parents, William James, Jr. and Addie Ree Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mary Spurgeon Johnson; son, Samuel Johnson Jr.; daughter, Meletha (Ronald) Belgon; grandchildren, Timothy Devon McBridge II and Lauren Nicole Belgon; siblings, Bernice Johnson, Jerelene (Stonewall) Smith, Isaac (Angie) Johnson and Annie Ruth Johnson.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon on Monday, Nov. 2, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
