Free Legal Services Offered In Chattanooga On Oct. 31
posted October 19, 2009

Chattanooga attorneys will gather at the Brainerd Recreation Center on Oct. 31, to provide free legal services on non-criminal matters to those unable to afford a lawyer.

The clinic is just one of dozens of such events occurring throughout the country during the week of Oct. 25-31, as part of the first annual National Pro Bono Celebration sponsored by the American Bar Association.

The week-long celebration is a coordinated national effort to showcase the great difference that pro bono lawyers make to the nation, its system of justice, its communities and, most of all, to the clients they serve.

The week is also dedicated to the quest for more pro bono volunteers to meet the ever-growing legal needs of this country's most vulnerable citizens.

Volunteer attorneys from Chattanooga will take part in the national effort by providing brief legal advice free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis on the following legal topics:
Wills & Estates
Landlord/Tenant Law
Family Law (Custody and Visitation, Child Support, Domestic Violence)
Consumer Law (Debt Collection, Lemon Law, Auto Leases, Purchase Contracts)
Bankruptcy
Veteran’s Benefits

The Advice Clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brainerd Recreation Center, 1010 N. Moore Rd., Chattanooga, Tn. 37411.

The Oct. 31st Advice Clinic is the second free clinic offered by the Pro Bono Committee this year. More than 40 volunteer attorneys provided free legal advice to 126 individuals at a clinic held on April 4, as part of the Tennessee Bar Association's "Justice 4All" campaign.
