McCallie, Baylor Girls Earn DII Region Golf Titles
Boyd, McMinn Central, Notre Dame, Signal Mountain Win District Titles

WINCHESTER, Tenn. -- McCallie and Baylor's girls earned Division II Middle/East region golf titles on Monday at Bear Trace at Tims Ford.

McCallie finished at 304, two shots better than Pope John Paul II, four shots better than Brentwood Academy and eight shots better than Ensworth. All four teams advance to the state tournament next week.

McCallie freshman Andrew Weathers earned medalists honors with a 2-over 73, topping Brentwood Academy's Dylan Healy and Pope John Pauls's Connor McCarthy in a playoff.

Also for McCallie, Max Markley and Rob Talbott each shot 76 with Patrick Clossin at 79 and Sammy Sandlin at 88.

Baylor's boys finished fifth and will not be be advancing to the state tournament for the first time in more than 20 years.

Baylor's Michael Huang (75) and Keith Mitchell (76) will advance to state as individuals.

The Baylor girls finished at 163, edging Battle Ground Academy by four shots.

Baylor's Sofia Hoglun was the girls medalist with an 80. Also for Baylor, Elena Baker shot an 83 and Kayleigh Toole added an 85.

GPS senior Mary Alice Murphy shot an 81 and will advance to state as an individual.

The Division II state golf tournament will be held Oct. 6-7 at the Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.

DISTRICT 5-A/AA: At Bear Trace at Harrison Bay, the Boyd-Buchanan boys and McMinn Central girls won district titles.

Boyd-Buchanan repeated as district champion with a 322, with McMinn Central at 340 and Polk County at 353.

Parker Brandt shot an 80 for Boyd-Buchanan, while Colin Osborne added an 81, Drew Zimbrun an 85 and Eric Tompkins an 86.

Sequoyah senior Joey Lottes earned medalist honors at 78. He will be joined as an individual in the region tournament by Silverdale's Ramsey Kimbrough, Grace Academy's Jack Badger and Collegedale's Stephen Patton and Jonathan Jones.

McMinn Central took the girls title at 189, led by medalist Becca Kimberlin's 89. Polk County was second and Boyd-Buchanan was third, with each team advancing to region.

Moving along as individuals were Silverdale's Tiffany Chaffin, Sequoyah's Madison Pennington, Grace's Nikki Davis, Meigs County's Kristie Jennings and Jill Davis.

DISTRICT 7-A/AA: At Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester, Notre Dame coasted to the region title. Kyle Wittler had a 74 for the Irish, with Jack Noonan at 76, Todd Krum at 79 and David Weeks at 83.

Wittler earned medalist honors with his 74, topping Signal Mountain's Tyler Carmichael in a playoff.

Moving on to the region tournament as individuals were Hunter Giles and Brady Rorex from South Pittsburg, Ernest Lopereno of Sequatchie, Joe Lultz of Chattanooga Christian and Colton Boring of Bledsoe.

Signal Mountain won the girls championship by 21 shots over Grundy County. Signal Mountain senior Jordan Britt was medalist with a 78.

Moving on as individuals to the girls region were Jordan Baker and Chandler Peppers of Chattanooga Christian, Kelsey Weiner of Sequatchie and Faith Forgey of Bledsoe.
