Fire Quickly Extinguished At Gateway Towers posted July 4, 2009 Chattanooga firefighters responded to Gateway Towers on Saturday morning on a reported apartment fire. Battalion Chief Bob Dixon said a blanket was on fire in Apartment 8119, which was occupied by a 52-year-old woman. The fire was quickly put out and damage to the apartment was minimal, but there was a lot of smoke. Chief Dixon said the woman was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS. Senior Firefighter Andrew Waters with the Fire Investigation Division said the woman had pre-existing medical conditions and medical personnel at the hospital said she did not appear to be suffering from smoke inhalation. Investigator Waters said the cause of the fire will be ruled accidental, most likely from a carelessly discarded cigarette. The incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. |
