Lookout Mountain’s Newest Eatery Opens June 17 by Bruce Bowden posted June 6, 2009
The actual location is the former Tucker’s Lookout Mountain Cleaners. After a long facelift, Guthrie’s owner Will Garrett tells me that he is excited to bring this new business to Lookout. The history of Guthrie’s goes back to 1965. The first location was opened in Haleyville, Ala., as a full service restaurant. In 1978, the chicken fingers were added to the menu complemented by the “original famous sauce” which was a creation of 10 year-old Hud Guthrie. The idea of serving chicken fingers as the only entrée was implemented in 1982. According to Mr. Garrett, the sauce is the kicker. Besides the chicken fingers, on the menu you will find hot and mild wings and salads. Although some of the more than 50 Guthrie’s locations serve breakfast, for now the Lookout Mountain location will be open only for lunch and dinner until 9 p.m. The restaurant will accommodate about 44 patrons inside, but keep in mind that carry-out is an option and delivery with a minimum $20 purchase and a distance that is within a reasonable radius of the location will also be available. Just having quality food at a decent price and at a convenient location, I’ll take it out anytime. Guthrie’s mission is “to serve hot and delicious, reasonable-priced food in a clean and pleasant environment.” Sounds good to me. Welcome, Mr. Garrett and Guthrie’s to Lookout Mountain. We’re glad you’re here. |
