City Council Approves Auditing Committee, Auditor Post posted June 2, 2009 The City Council voted Tuesday night to form a five-member auditing committee and establishing a city auditor position. Council members said earlier that current council management analyst Randy Burns would serve in the auditor post. The audit committee will include three members with auditing. The City Council will name the other two members with experience in business, law, information systems or government. All members shall be city residents. One member will serve for one year, two for two years and two for three years. Afterward, all terms shall be three years. Future appointees will be named by the chairman of the City Council and require approval of a majority of the council. No member of the audit committee may have a direct or indirect interest in a city contract during their term or for a year after their term. Also, no immediate member of their family shall be employed by the city or a firm that obtains more than 10 percent of its annual funds from the city. The committee is to review any audit plan of the internal audit division and recommend any additional audits. It is to monitor follow-up or reported audit findings. The panel is to provide advice to the city auditor. |
