Salvation Army Receives Gloves, Scarves And Hats From Community Drive posted January 6, 2009 The Salvation Army will be presented with donations of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and blankets that were collected on the 2008 "Share the Warmth Tree" on Thursday. The presentation will take place at City Hall on the first floor at 2:30 p.m. The 2008 "Share the Warmth Tree" was a 9-foot tall holiday tree that was decorated by children with the donated items as an effort launched by the Creative Discovery Museum's new exhibit, "Helping Hands," which introduced children to the important idea that everyone – including children – can help other people. "We are so appreciative of this donation and the generosity it demonstrates," said Major Jim Lawrence, area commander of The Salvation Army. "It is wonderful how this drive teaches charitable giving to the youth of our community." Those involved in the 2008 Share the Warmth Tree Campaign were Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield, who served as the 2008 Salvation Army Kettle Drive chairman; Volunteer Alan Voss who designed and built the 9-foot tree out of dowels donated by Habitat for Humanity; and Henry Schulson, executive director of Creative Discovery Museum. Donations of blankets, coats, and heaters are still being accepted at The Salvation Army at 800 McCallie Ave. Monetary donations can be mailed to The Salvation Army, 800 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN, 37403 marked Share the Warmth.
