Final Suspect Arrested for Gang-Related Firebombings posted December 3, 2008
The arrest follows a collaborative investigative effort by Chattanooga fire investigators, Chattanooga police and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Police said on June 26, two vehicles and a duplex at 1602 E. 17th Street were set ablaze with Molotov cocktails by individuals believed to be members of a local gang. Five suspects had been arrested over a period of weeks and warrants had been issued for the arrest of Anthony "Man Man" Amey, 18, who was still believed to be in the area. Amey was apprehended by Chattanooga police officers around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday following a routine traffic stop on Rossville Boulevard. Officer Joshua May said Amey was a passenger in the vehicle and, as the officers approached, the suspect jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Chattanooga Police Department officers Todd Clay, Zachary Moody and Bryan Wood assisted with the chase and eventually apprehended Amey a few blocks away. Police have charged Amey with criminal impersonation and evading arrest. Lt. Henry McElvain with the fire investigation division said those charges are in addition to the original charges he already faces, which include aggravated arson, reckless endangerment and setting fire to personal property. Capt. Lesley Morgan and Lt. Anthony Moore also assisted with the investigation, along with R. Kenneth Freeman and William Barker with the ATF's Arson Task Force. |
