Mrs. Buffington was raised in Joplin, Mo., and had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area where she was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church.
Her daughter, Gail Cooper preceded her in death.
Survivors include her five children, Michael Underwood of Henegar, Al., Ann Derryberry of Ringgold, Ga., Gary Underwood of Chattanooga, Dorothy Ogdon of Joplin, Mo., and Inez Hamilton of Joplin, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
