City May Add Light Feature, Narration At The Passage
posted August 19, 2008

The city may add a light feature and a Native American narration at The Passage section of the 21st Century Waterfront, City Council members were told Tuesday.

Councilwoman Sally Robinson said the idea for the light feature came after Missy Crutchfield, who heads the arts and culture department, saw a similar display at the Natural Bridge in Virginia.

Ms. Robinson said the lights would make for a "moving experience" at the attraction by the Market Street Bridge at night.

She said the lights would highlight the medallions and other handiwork of Native American craftsmen.

Ms. Robinson also said that at night the water level may be lowered so that visitors can better hear a Native American narration that would tell the story of the forced trip to Oklahoma and how they had survived as a nation.

Ms. Crutchfield said it would make The Passage popular with visitors not only in the daytime, but after dark.
