Soddy-Daisy Commissioner Speaks at Council Meeting
posted August 15, 2008

Soddy-Daisy City Commissioner Jim Adams, the leader in the local "Rails to Trails" effort in Soddy-Daisy, will be speaking to the Soddy-Daisy/ North Hamilton County Council of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 21.

Adams will be discussing the "Rails to Trails" project which would provide a paved, shared use recreational trail along a six-mile corridor which would parallel Sequoyah Road between Highway 27 and the Sequoyah Nuclear Facility on Lake Chickamauga.

The luncheon meeting will take place at the Soddy-Daisy City Hall, 9835 Dayton Pike, beginning at noon. Lunch is $10. The public is invited.

"There has been much interest from the community regarding this proposal," Adams said. "I can sense that the excitement is building for this very unique project not only from physical fitness enthusiasts, but from homeowners and the business community.

"What could be more appealing to a community than taking an unsightly, rusty railroad track with weeds growing up through the planks and turning it into a walking park for people to enjoy with their family and neighbors? A project such as 'Rails to Trails' makes our community more appealing, increases the value of our property, and enhances the marketability of our area. People recognize that communities which have trails and greenways are providing opportunities for physical activity for their residents, and the result is a healthier and happier community."

Mr. Adams, who is also chairman of the Consumer Connection Committee, will discuss some of the activities of this group. He will highlight some of the changes and immediate needs of the community due to the expanded growth.

McAlister's Deli of Hixson will be providing a boxed lunch which will include one of their delicious sandwiches, a side item, and sweet tea.

Members of the community who would like to stay informed about activities in the north end of Hamilton County are invited and encouraged to join the Council for lunch and participate in its informative meetings.
