Police Blotter: Trio Try To Blast Open Safe At Brainerd Food Lion

Police said three black males tried to blast open a safe at the Food Lion on Brainerd Road.

Officers said the trio used a 16-gauge shotgun to shoot out a window so they could get inside of the closed store.

They then went to the safe and began firing at it with the shotgun and a handgun, but were unable to get it open.

They then left the store.

All were wearing dark clothing, and one had a bandana over his face. One of them was heavy set.

A shotgun shell, bullet fragments and shattered glass with blood on it were found inside the grocery.

Loss control officers at J.C. Penney at Hamilton Place Mall said a couple took some clothing and then tried to return it for cash.

Christopher Weaver and Cheryl Hale were charged with theft under $500.

Weaver was given a citation, but Ms. Hale was arrested because she had an outstanding warrant.

On East 13th Street, contractor Frank Fugunt found that someone had cut 32 feet of copper wire that was connected to an air conditioning unit.

The copper was valued at $300, and damage was $150.

Police said they have responded to multiple false alarms from Battle Academy on Market Street.

Officers said principal Ruth White was contacted frequently, but the calls have continued.

It was recommended that the situation be reported to the regulatory board.

Break-ins were reported to vehicles at the Tow Company on Airport Road.

Randy Dill said someone pried open the driver's door and broke a window on his 1994 Honda Accord to get a radio/CD player, speakers and amps.

Kenneth Brock said a 1997 Cadillac Seville belonging to Northwest Georgia Bank was also hit.

On Stone Trace, homeowner Lance Halfield said he was attempting to set out a second garbage can when the arm of the city truck came down and hit him in the head.

He had a laceration on his head and scratches on his right shoulder.

A woman on 15th Avenue said her ex-boyfriend assaulted her after complaining that she had given him "The Package" - AIDs.

She said he hit her in the side of the face and tried to choke her.

She told police she knows the ex-boyfriend only as "D.C." and does not know where he lives.
