Cedar Hill Improvement League Dedicates Rose Garden posted August 6, 2008 General Sessions Judge Bob Moon, told a large gathering of members of the Cedar Hill Improvement League Tuesday afternoon that National Night Out is a celebration in its 25th year "for people to come together throughout this community and across our nation." Judge Moon said, "Americans have always done what others have proclaimed to be impossible. This nation defeated the strongest military build up in the history of the world, Hitler's Germany. This country put a man on the moon and eliminated the cold war. However, our greatest challenge today is to recapture the American work ethic, to respect each other and to graduate our children. "This country is on the threshold of recapturing its historical and enviable greatness or else fall in ruin as the great superpowers of Rome and Egypt. This journey of American reclamation begins with each of you and we must begin now as informed, concerned and demanding citizens. Mediocrity, ignorance, violence in our streets and gangs have never been the American way of life. And so it is here and now with all of you on this very special national night of redemption and reclamation that we must all re-dedicate ourselves, redefine our priorities and decide what kind of community and country that we want our children and grandchildren to call home." The Cedar Hill Improvement League, which hosted the event, also dedicated a rose garden for past members of the organization. City Councilman Manny Rico was in attendance and donated an inscripted granite monument for the garden. Dinner and music was provided by local members. The event was also attended by Judges David Bales and Sherry Paty. The group released several dozen heart-shaped balloons at the end of the night honoring past members. |
