William "Bill" Lee Walton Sr. died on August 5, from prostate cancer. He was 67.

A proud native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Bill had lived in Tennessee since 1970. He was a lifelong teacher of mathematics who began his career in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

Locally, he taught for Hamilton County Schools and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga before retiring from The McCallie School. While at McCallie, he also served as a reader for the College Board's Advanced Placement Calculus Exams.

He was a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church and the Kingsbury Sunday School class.

Prior to becoming an educator, Bill served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966 in Pueblo, Co. He earned a B.S.Ed. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.N.S. from Oklahoma University and completed additional graduate work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Bill's dedication extended from teaching to his two other loves: family and travel. He met his goal of visiting each of the 50 states and toured many of the nation's premier National Parks including Denali in Alaska and Glacier in Montana. He was an avid train enthusiast, of both big trains and small, giving pleasure to many with his Christmastime train displays.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann, and daughter, Ann Louise, both of Chattanooga, and a son, William Lee Jr. of Los Angeles, Ca.; He also is survived by two brothers, Theodore and Robert, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday at Brainerd United Methodist Church with the Rev. Denny Humphreys and Rev. Patricia Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, McCallie School, Girls' Preparatory School or Hospice of Chattanooga.
