Volkswagen Begins Hiring On Wednesday 50 Purchasing Positions Available posted August 5, 2008 Volkswagen Group of America hosts its first hiring event in Chattanooga on Wednesday as the company begins to interview for 50 purchasing positions for its new production facility. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Departments of Labor and Workforce Development and Economic and Community Development will be on hand to welcome applicants and assist in the interview process. “We have had an overwhelming response from the community, and are impressed with the quality of the resumes and wide skill set of the applicants,” said Mike Beamish, executive vice president, human resources, Volkswagen Group of America. “It’s important to note that this is only the first in a series of recruitment efforts. Ultimately, we will hire 2,000 employees for our new facility, and there will be ample opportunities as we move toward that goal. All resumes will be stored in a database, and with the assistance of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Volkswagen will draw from these candidates and others throughout the recruitment and selection process.” Approximately 100 applicants will attend the invitation only event at the Chattanooga Convention Center. The event will run from noon-9 p.m. In addition to the support from the Chamber and the State representatives from Chattanooga State Technical Community College, Northwestern Tech and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga also attended the event. "The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Developments Career Center @ Chattanooga, in partnership with the Local Workforce Investment Area, is looking forward to the August 6th job fair to actively take part in recruiting and screening for our states newest employer", said James Neeley, commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. "I'm pleased to see this process begin as Volkswagen starts down the road of ramping up its presence in Tennessee," said Matt Kisber, commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. "The skill and productivity of the local workforce is one of the biggest assets we had in selling Volkswagen on Chattanooga and it’s my belief this and subsequent job fairs will demonstrate that point." “We’re working closely with Volkswagen officials to help them connect with all of the local resources related to identifying and training employees,” said Mattie Moran, director of education and workforce development for the Chattanooga Chamber. “We look forward to building on the strong collaborative partnership we have already established with Volkswagen.” |
