Police Blotter: Man, 70, In Wheelchair Arrested On Sex Charge

Police got a call on an elderly man in a wheelchair with his pants down exposing himself in the 1000 block of Market Street.

Officers found William Eugene Ridley, 70, in the 900 block. His pants were up, but unfastened.

Police said Ridley, who they said is a registered sex offender, was told he "needed to make sure his clothes did not fall down."

Ridley, of 717 E. 11th St., was taken to jail on a charge of indecent exposure.

Kristie Mitchell said she parked her 1999 Chevrolet Suburban at Hamilton Place Mall in the second parking spot in front of the traffic lane by the mall.

She came out and found that her right passenger side window had been smashed out.

Missing were an in-dash DVD player, an amplifier and a large speaker box with two 12-inch speakers.

Susan Ford, regional manager for Claire's, said an internal investigation found that sales associate Mona Mayrell had taken $529.29 from the Hamilton Place store.

She would use previous customer transactions to complete fraudulent returns, when no goods were actually returned, Ms. Ford said.

She would keep the cash from the transactions.

Ms. Mayrell was fired and was charged with theft over $500.

A silver Pontiac Grand Prix was stopped on I-75 for speeding and for a tail light out.

Darnell G. White was the driver and Steven Peoples the passenger. They said they were returning from a funeral in Atlanta.

However, police said they appeared very nervous and gave conflicting stories about their trip.

They were asked if they had any drugs or large sums of cash in the vehicle. A search was initiated after they said they did not.

Officers found $10,000 in a black bag that had been hidden in a side panel. The cash was in bundles of $1,000 tied up with rubber bands.

A k-9 hit on a drug odor on the black bag.

Police said both men had extensive drug records.

The money was seized, though the two men and the vehicle were let go.

On Highway 27, a car driven erratically by Alexander Jefferson was pulled over.

The officer said Jefferson ran over a curb three times, came to a stop, then pulled forward again before finally halting.

A baggie of green leafy material was inside. Jefferson said he is addicted to marijuana and smokes it most every day.

He faces traffic and drug charges.

A woman who parked at Tyner Redoubt Soccer returned to find her car had been broken into.

The thief got her purse with her ID, credit cards and $5.

On Stratton Place Boulevard, Tonneta Patridge got mad about her boyfriend cutting the neighbor's yard, while cutting his own.

By the time police arrived, she reported they had made up, everything was alright, and no one was injured.

Barbara Gunter, loss prevention officer at Wal-Mart on Gunbarrel Road, spotted a woman concealing some merchandise.

Barbara Harris was charged with theft under $500 after she was found with two bottles of stool softener worth $6.74.

Ms. Harris was taken to the county jail.
