Hamilton County Baptist Association Teaches Volunteers To Teach posted July 14, 2008 You don't have to be a teacher to be a teacher. Classes offered by the Hamilton County Baptist Association will teach you how to help children, adults and music teachers in classes to be held during August. Most instruction is free and volunteers are needed. "In one Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can learn to help a child get ready for school or do their home work or catch up," according to Becky Witt, administrator of language ministries at the Association. "Come to our office on the North Shore area Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon and learn about helping a child to read. Stay for lunch. Bring your own or order from us for $7.50. Then from lunch to 3 p.m. learn about the new math. Be ready to offer help and it will improve a child's self-esteem as well." We also teach adults from other countries who want to learn English as a Second Language, Ms. Witt said. Classes for workers and volunteers is in three parts, starting Aug. 15 on Friday evening and continues for two Saturdays. "We have everything you need and you should not use any language except English, so do not worry if you cannot speak Russian or other languages." There also is training for music teachers of children's choirs and other workers. This will also come in August. For times and more information, contact Ms. Witt at 267-3794 or website, www.baptistassociation.com. |
