Safe & Sound Offers Buckle-Up Program For Cub Scouts posted July 12, 2008
A buckle-up event was held on June 28, at Adcox Chevrolet on Lee Highway for Cub Scout Pack #3012. The two-hour session is designed to teach local cub scouts and their parents the value of vehicle safety. Program facilitators will cover proper seatbelt usage, ways to prevent trunk entrapment, the importance of never leaving a child alone in the vehicle, why adults must walk around the vehicle before backing out, and how to contact OnStar in the event of an emergency. Successful completion of the program will entitle individual scouts to an "automotive safety patch." "Our primary goal is to educate the community about the safety of children," said Becky Campbell, Safe & Sound program lead. "This Cub Scout program creates an opportunity to reach children and their parents." Safe & Sound is a prevention service of T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger and is an affiliate of Safe Kids Worldwide, the first and only nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury. Cub Scout leaders are encouraged to call the Safe & Sound Office at 423 778-6691 for more information on the patch program. You can also visit www.usa.safekids.org and click on Cub Scout Automotive Safety Patch Program for more information on the national program. |
