A $5,000 donation was given to Inner City Ministries on Thursday from Sandy Kirkman, recipient of Unum’s National Volunteer of the Year Award. Kirkman was given the opportunity to choose a registered 501-(c)3 to receive the offering.

Inner City Ministries, which focuses on meeting the needs of inner city youths through teaching spiritual, character and personal development skills, relies solely on private donors and organizations. Kirkman’s award from Unum will go toward transportation costs and necessary supplies for Inner City Ministries.

“People will not care about what you know until they know that you care,” said Kirkman. “One thing we are always instructed to do when volunteering with Inner City Ministries is to simply go out and show love.”
