Junior pitcher Alesha Buckner was sensational Friday night for Soddy-Daisy's two-time defending state champion Lady Trojans.
Playing at Coffee County, Buckner gave up only three hits and struck out seven as Soddy-Daisy defeated Coffee County, 3-0, in a Class AAA state softball sectional.
The victory gave Soddy-Daisy (26-14-1) a berth in the BlueCross Spring Fling next week in Murfreesboro.
Coffee County ended its season at 28-10-1. Soddy-Daisy's victory Friday night broke Coffee County's 18-game winning streak.
Coffee County loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Buckner forced a runner at the plate and then got a strikeout for the final out.
Soddy-Daisy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Alex Everette walked and scored when Ashlee England's fly ball was muffed when two Coffee County outfielders ran together.
In the bottom of the sixth, Everette gave Soddy-Daisy a 2-0 lead with an RBI single. Andie Johnson had led off the inning with a single.
CLASS AAA: Ooltewah will try and join Soddy-Daisy in the Class AAA field when it plays Lawrence County on Saturday at Jim Lovell Field at 11 a.m. eastern.
CLASS AA: Goodpasture defeated Chattanooga Christian, 3-0, in a Class AA state softball sectional on Friday at Goodpasture.
The win gave Goodpasture a berth in next week's BlueCross Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.
CLASS A: Whitwell defeated Monterey, 6-0, Friday night at Whitwell.
Friendship Christian defeated Sale Creek, 4-0, Friday night at Friendship Christian.
