Garland E. Mills, 83, of Cleveland, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. He passed away in a local hospital with his loving family by his side. Rev. Mills was a retired ordained bishop in the Church of God. He served as a local church pastor for over 42 years. His pastorates included Missouri, Illinois, Alabama and he closed his pastoral ministry in Greenville, Mississippi. He served the Church of God as District Overseer and State Council member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Joy Mills.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille Mills, Cleveland; three sons and daughters in law, Rev. David E. and Sandra Mills, Zambia, Africa, Rev. Stephen H. and Rebecca Mills, Crozet, Va., and Rev. Rodney J. and Kristie Mills, Mobile, Ala.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra E. and Rev. Richard L. Bolte, Hattiesburg, Miss.; one brother, Tommy Johnson, Norris, City, Il.; five sisters, Gerri Emory, Grayville, Il., Connie Vinson, Va., Beverly McKenzie, Norris City, Il., Billie, Portales, NM and Carolyn Sourant, Phoenix, Az.; nine grandchildren, Darla Brock, Michelle Phillips, Gene Mills, Adrienne Mills, Cassandra Utz, Bradley Mills, Elizabeth Mills and Brianna Mills; six great-grandchildren, Bailey Phillips, Abigail Phillips, Amber Mills, Nathanael Mills, Christina Brock and Trevor Brock; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Westmore Church of God with Pastor Kelvin Page and Rev. Wendell Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Gene Mills, Nathanael Mills, Bradley Mills, Danny Hesterly, Steve, and Ryan Rains serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow retired ministers in the Church of God. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Westmore Church of God Building Fund. The family will receive friends Friday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Grissom Funeral Home who has charge of funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net
