Two Losses Keep Baylor Out Of Spring Fling

MEMPHIS -- Briarcrest shocked Baylor by sweeping a DII high school fastpitch softball double-header here Thursday.
Briarcrest beat Baylor, 2-1 and 8-4, and earned a berth in the BlueCross Spring Fling next week in Murfreesboro.
Baylor's season ended with the two losses in the best-of-three series.
"I am shocked,'' Baylor coach Kelli Smith said. "I felt really good when we got off the bus here today, but we left our bats in Chattanooga.''
In the first game, Baylor senior Claire Hufstetler took the loss despite giving up only two hits and striking out 13.
"Claire was great,'' Smith said. "She was not supposed to lose that game.''
Braleigh Angel was 2-for-3 for the Lady Raiders.
In the second game, senior third-baseman Kaitlin Sutherland was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Baylor. Nina Davenport had an RBI single and Sam Everette added an RBI on a fielder's choice.
