Motorists traveling in the area of the I-75 project in Ooltewah Friday should expect some delays, officials said. The contractor performing work in the area has reached a stage where he must make several changes to the northbound exit ramp from I-75 to Lee Highway (S.R.-2, U.S. 11, and U.S. 64).
Once these changes are made all traffic using the northbound exit ramp from I-75 to Lee Highway (S.R.-2, U.S. 11, and U.S. 64) will be directed through the traffic light at the intersection of the northbound exit and entrance ramps. Previously, traffic on this ramp wishing to go east on Lee Highway had their own secondary ramp that required them to merge with other traffic. This separate exit ramp will no longer be available.
Work on these ramp changes will occur on Friday after 9 a.m. and is expected to take about four hours to complete. Other than the closure of the small secondary ramp the contractor plans to do this work and leave all remaining lanes on the ramp open.
This work is part of the I-75 widening and improvements to the Ooltewah interchange at exit 11.
At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times, however motorists should slow down, and plan for some delays, particularly during the afternoon hours. Travelers are asked to plan ahead and be alert for changing traffic conditions.
Should unforeseen circumstances or weather prevent any of this work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.
