On June 7, American Hiking Society and the National Park Service invite Chattanooga area residents to get outside and lend a helping hand for National Trails Day 2008. Motivated volunteers will be gathering for fun, camaraderie, and trail projects on top of Lookout Mountain.
In the spirit of this year’s NTD theme, “Join us on the Trail”, activities will focus around trail maintenance to restore Bluff Trail to its original location and condition. “This volunteer effort will greatly improve trail conditions…and give everyone the ability to get outdoors and connect with nature” said Gregory Miller, American Hiking Society president. “It’s a wonderful example of how National Trails Day fosters community building and trail stewardship through strong partnerships.”
The event will kickoff at 8:30am at the Sunset Rock parking lot on West Brow Rd at the top of Lookout Mountain. Media are welcome to attend the celebration. The project is an excellent representation of thousands of events the will be happening around the country on National Trails Day.
