Howard Mitchell Sr., 76, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, May 5, 2008, at his residence.
He was a member of New Emmanuel Baptist Church and retired from the city of Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Mitchell, and mother, Maggie Dancey.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Mitchell; sons, Howard Mitchell Jr. and Arlend (Julia) Jenkins, both of Chattanooga; daughters, Casundra Mitchell, Monica Mitchell and Tammy (Mark) Newson, all of Chattanooga, and Doretha Flemings, of Fontain, Ca.; five grandchildren; brothers, Willie James (Lavenia) Mitchell, of Epes, Al., and Willie Mitchell, of Tuscaloosa, Al.; sisters, Helen Brown and Bertha Mitchell, both of Epes, Al.; aunt, Bertha Dancey, of Birmingham, Al.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be on Saturday at noon in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East, with Pastor Terrance Hannah officiating.
His body will lie in state on Friday after noon at Taylor Funeral Home.
