It's been said a two goal lead is one of the worst ones to have in soccer and for the Irish of Notre Dame that certainly came true Thursday in the District 6-A/AA championship at Notre Dame. CCS scored two goals in the second half and one in overtime to win 3-2.

Notre Dame scored twice in an eight minute period and could have scored three if it weren't for a big save by CCS keeper Brad Gibson.

Andy Helms put the Irish on the board in the 11th minute when he bent a ball over the CCS wall on a direct kick re-start and rattled the net.

A minute later, Gibson made a big save on a close shot by Notre Dame that could have given the Irish a 2-0 lead.

Matthew Keaney scored just minutes later when he collected a ball inside the box and finished it off, past Gibson.

The Chargers held their ground until half-time and 13 minutes into the second half, cut the lead to win and gave themselves new life.

Ben Sandidge scored on a long shot after beating a defender.

In the 73rd minute, Adam Ryan finished off a ball that was batted around the box several times. The goal sent the game to the first of two ten minute overtimes.

With just two minutes left in the first overtime, Rocklin Shumaker collected a ball from Adam Ryan and was able to finish it off for the game winner.

CCS head coach Shawn Brower said his team didn't execute in the first half.

"We knew what we had to do and we weren't doing it," Brower said. "We were sending these long balls in and on this field, it just doesn't work. In the second half, our strikers were able to hold the ball and started linking with our mids. Some guys just really stepped up. Any time you get these two teams together it is going to be a battle."

Gibson was recorded with two saves and Notre Dame keeper Caleb Williford had four saves.

Notre Dame won the district championship last year and CCS won the region championship.

Both teams have advanced to the class A/AA state tournament for the past two years.

The win gives CCS the right to host the region semifinals and finals next week.

CCS will host CSAS on Tuesday.

Notre Dame will travel to Boyd-Buchanan.
