Art by Austin Pyron
Austin Pyron, a seventh grade student at New Hope Middle School, recently
was named a state finalist in the Georgia River of Words Environmental
Poetry and Art Competition.

The River of Words contest benefits Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Georgia schools and youth organizations by encouraging art
and poetry as powerful communication tools in their commitment to
environmental awareness.

Austin’s original work was sent to California by Carla Maret, visual arts teacher at New Hope Middle.

His work competed in the international competition and then returned to Georgia for the State competition. National and state winners are
recognized by Georgia Project WET and the Georgia Center for the Book at an awards ceremony.

Austin’s art work will be on display in the exhibit for one year and will travel to libraries, schools, nature centers, conferences, water festivals, parks and State buildings. The winning art work will be featured in the poetry and art journal with the other state finalists.

It may also be seen in the online gallery at www.gaprojectwet.org.
