Walker County Teacher Of The Year Is Karen Neal

The annual Walker County Schools “Teacher of the Year” Celebration was Wednesday at the Walker County Consultation and Evaluation Center. This year the tradition continues with the system-wide recognition of the county’s best and brightest educators.

The Walker County Schools Teacher of the Year is Karen Neal, a third grade teacher at Gilbert Elementary.

Teachers from across Walker County were showcased in a video production along with being recognized as each school’s “Distinguished Teacher.”

An independent panel of judges interviewed the 15 school representatives and reviewed philosophy statements prior to the celebration. The panel narrowed down the field and selected finalists for on-site visitations.

This year’s finalists include, seventh grade teacher at Chattanooga Valley Middle School, Karen Mathis, Jennifer Reed, a third grade teacher at Rossville Elementary, Karen Neal, a third grade teacher at Gilbert Elementary and Rossville Middle School’s sixth grade teacher, Jennifer Talley.

Among those honored at the luncheon were North LaFayette Elementary teacher, Chuck Gregory, Chattanooga Valley Elementary teacher, Sandy Alford, Rock Spring Elementary teacher Charleen Norfleet and Fairyland Elementary teacher, Marybeth Catanzaro. The Distinguished Teachers include Stone Creek Elementary’s Jami Ballew, LaFayette Middle’s Jennifer Fagan, Ridgeland High’s, Suellen Gibson, and LaFayette High’s, Lugenia Thomas. Also honored are Mike Ware from Naomi Elementary, Christy Wooten from Cherokee Ridge Elementary, and Donna Hazelwood from the Alternative Education Center.

The Walker County Schools Teacher of the Year Celebration is sponsored by the Walker County Principal’s Association.
