The Hixson High School Air Force Junior ROTC recently received the 2007-2008 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award.
This award, given to 327 units across the country this year, recognizes Air Force JROTC units that have performed above and beyond normal expectations, distinguishing themselves through outstanding service to their school and community, while meeting the Air Force JROTC mission of producing upstanding citizens.
Air Force JROTC boasts more than 102,000 cadets in 879 high schools across the country, Europe, the Pacific and Puerto Rico.
The JROTC program strives to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills, promote community service, instill responsibility, character and self-discipline through character education. It also provides instruction in air and space fundamentals. Enrollment is open to students in grades 9-12 who are physically fit and are citizens or nationals of the United States.
