Calvary Heirs Quartet Plays At Ringgold United Methodist May 17 posted May 8, 2008
The group continues in its 28th year of sharing the gospel from its home in Mt. Vernon, Ky. “Our passion is southern gospel music,” said Bill Sowder, baritone singer. “Our purpose for singing is to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” From Renfro Valley All-Night Sings to being the featured group on the Star of Louisville River Boat Cruise, the quartet is among the favorites from Kentucky. The group includes founding member Bill Eckler, Sr., who sings bass; Bill Eckler II, who sings lead; Bill Sowder, who sings baritone; Randy Smith, who sings tenor; Phil Malicote who plays bass guitar, coordinates music tracks, and sings background vocals; and Bonnie Eckler, who operates the soundboard. Mr. Sowder has written several charting songs over the years, including, "He Is So Wonderful," "He Paid Too Much For Me," and "Thank God For A Hill." The Calvary Heirs latest project is "Thankful." Soloist Chasity Jones, from Catoosa County, will join the quartet. Ms. Jones was one of the top two soloists winning competition accolades at the 2007 National Quartet Convention. Randall Franks, “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night” will emcee the event. The event is a fundraiser for the church building fund. Admission is a $5 donation. The event begins at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
