Soccer Championships On the Line Thursday Night
posted May 8, 2008

It's district championship Thursday in Chattanooga with five games being played in high school boys soccer.

Sites include McCallie, Notre Dame, CSAS, Ooltewah and Rhea County.

All teams will advance but hosting rights will be given to the champions as region tournaments begin next week.

Here is a short primer to the games on Thursday. (weather permitting)

Division II East District:
Baylor at McCallie 5:00

Area soccer fans would call this an epic battle. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie a few weeks ago at McCallie. The Blue Tornado have not played since last Thursday. Baylor beat Knox Webb in an impressive 3-0 win on Tuesday. You can pretty much through out any x's and o's or previous game comparisions anytime these two teams meet. It should be a great game. Both teams will play seeding games on Saturday at Baylor in the all confusing new Division II East Region format.

District 5A/AA
Boyd Buchanan at CSAS 7:00

The Bucs beat Silverdale 3-0 on Tuesday and CSAS sneaked by Sweetwater 2-1. In their regular season game, CSAS beat the Bucs 1-0 but the goal was recorded as an own goal. This should be a good game. Boyd-Buchanan has not won a district tournament championship in several years. CSAS has not lost a district championship game since moving to District 5A/AA two years ago.

District 6-A/AA
CCS at Notre Dame 7:00

CCS is ranked fourth in A/AA and Notre Dame is ranked 10th. They tied each other 1-1 in their regular season match up at CCS. CCS beat East Ridge 3-0 in the semifinals and Notre Dame beat Hixson 2-0. The district and region have come down to these two teams for several years. It's not an elimination game but both teams would like that district championship trophy and the right to host the region semifinal next week.

Disrict 5-AAA
McMinn County vs Cleveland @ Rhea County 7:00

Another epic battle north of the boarder. (Chattanooga that is) McMinn County lost to Cleveland 3-0 back in April but the Cherokees have played a tough schedule in the past few weeks with respectable losses to Baylor, Farragut and Bearden. Cleveland is ranked seventh in Class AAA. There last two losses were to Ooltewah and Christian Brothers.

District 6-AAA
Soddy Daisy at Ooltewah 7:00

This is another big rivalry. It's a game that typically brings out a lot of fans. Ooltewah has certainly had the upper hand in the district outscoring district oppanants 11-0 in the regular season games. Ooltewah beat Soddy-Daisy 4-0 in mid April. The Owls cruised to a 9-0 win over Central on Tuesday and Soddy-Daisy battled to a 1-0 win over Red Bank. Ooltewah is heavily favored but the Soddy-Daisy student section won't let that keep them home.
