Commission Does Not Go Along With Mackey Health Appointee posted May 7, 2008 The County Commission took the unusual action on Wednesday of not going along with an advisory board appointment. Commissioner Warren Mackey had recommended that Bobby Petty be named to the Chattanooga Regional Health Council. There were three nominees for three seats on the panel, and Chairman Bill Hullander asked that it be a split vote. The commission unanimously approved Glenna Hood and Dr. Thomas Miller. Commissioner Mackey then nominated Mr. Petty, and Commissioner Fred Skillern seconded the motion. A vote was taken, and all but Commissioner John Brooks were in favor. But Commissioner Greg Beck then asked to change his vote to No. Commissioner Larry Henry also asked to be switched to No. Commissioner Adams asked to be moved to a No also. At this point, Chairman Hullander recommended there be a revote. Commissioner Mackey then made another motion for Mr. Petty. But this time there was no second. Commissioner Adams afterwards said Mr. Petty, a longtime East Lake resident, did not have any health background. He said he had initially voted for Mr. Petty out of courtesy to Commissioner Mackey. |
