Lee University To Present Pride And Prejudice by Kelly Bridgeman, Lee University posted March 26, 2008
The production is being directed by Assistant Professor of Drama, Dr. Mark Burnette. This stage adaptation, which was first performed at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, "closely follows the action of the novel, while also taking advantage of the unique qualities of a live theatrical production," said Dr. Burnette. This nineteenth-century English novel was chosen by the drama department for its "richly drawn characters and engaging dramatic conflict." The story tells of the Bennett girls and their quest to find suitable husbands. Centered on the headstrong Elizabeth Bennett and the proud Mr. Darcy, the story is filled with misjudgments, love, humor, and conflict. Dr. Burnette directs one main stage production each year. He joined the Lee University faculty in 2004 and teaches a variety of theatre courses. He has also served as the faculty advisor for the summer Drama Day Camp. Ticket sales begin Tuesday, March 25 at the Dixon Center Box Office. Box office hours are 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, and $5 for children and students. Groups of seven or more will receive the "Bennett Family Discount" of $5 per person. All Lee students get one free ticket. Lee faculty and staff get two free tickets. For more information, please contact Susie Battle, theatre manager, at 614-8343 or 614-8341. |
