Executive Director — Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga works to bring together the Chattanooga area’s top residential construction professionals and advocate for the home-building community through governmental representation, education, networking and other services.
The association is a not-for-profit trade organization which guided by the group’s mission statement:
*We are an association of building professionals committed to promoting the responsible development of quality communities for present and future generations of homeowners.
*Our membership includes professional builders, developers, and associated firms engaged directly or indirectly in home building, remodeling, and light commercial construction.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga is led by a board of directors, comprised of association members and headed by a six-member executive committee. The board is assisted by a staff of two full time employees: An executive director and an accounting manager/member services director.

Among the many educational and outreach work done by the Association is work by several councils and committees to benefit our membership and help them to grow in their profession. Three standing committees are the Associates Council, the Green Building Council and the Remodelers Council.

*The Associates Council works to assist all homebuilding professionals by providing networking opportunities through educational seminars, high-profile events and other programs to help home builders and professionals associated with the industry connect and build relationships that will enhance the profession and effectiveness.

*The Green Building Council works to build awareness of sustainable residential design and construction practices by providing educational resources, governmental advocacy and working to make homeowners aware of these construction techniques.

*The Remodeling Council works to be the voice of the remodeling industry in the greater Chattanooga area. HBAGC member remodelers adhere to the code of ethics of the National Association of Homebuilders and work to promote providing quality remodeling services. Home improvement contractors, kitchen and bath specialists, as well as specialized installers such as closets, windows, and siding or insulation companies serve on this council.

In addition, the HBAGC produces a member directory each year and puts on a golf tournament, a sporting clay shoot and other events to enhance the visibility of the Association and its members.

The Association also involves itself and its members in charitable work, including last year’s Home Builders Blitz 2014 with Habitat For Humanity of Chattanooga, which built two homes for low-income families.

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION:

Reporting/Working Relationships

The Executive Director works in coordination with the board of directors and executive committee to run the daily operations of the Association and inform the board on conditions and operations of the Association.
Responsibilities

The Executive Director is responsible for maintaining the assets of the Association, planning, offering advice and helping the board of directors develop policies, events and other programs to benefit the association.

In addition, the Executive Director would serve as the public spokesperson for the Association and be in charge of developing a budget for the association in coordination with the Board of Directors and the Finance committee and ensuring that Association funds are managed appropriately.

The Executive Director will maintain good relationships with local and state political leaders and monitor legislation that could impact the Association’s membership. New and changing laws and regulations can have a profound impact on the home building profession, so the Executive Director will need to have a strong understanding of the political process, the ability to communicate with political leaders and develop strategies to achieve legislative goals for the benefit of the Association. The Executive Director will also communicate how the legislative process and new laws and regulations will impact the Association and its membership.

The Executive Director will hire, train and manage the staff of the Association and managed the funds and budget in a responsible manner. The staff will be responsible for maintaining the minutes of all Association meetings and following up on all decisions made by the Board of Directors with the assistance and input of the Executive Director.

The Executive Director will be responsible for other duties, events and programs as determined by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Characteristics

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience of management and collaboration as well as the ability to form and maintain positive relationships with governmental officials. A strong understanding of the legislative process and the ability to effectively advocate for Association’s goals is also vital. The Executive Director also must have strong written and verbal communications skills and the proven ability to managed a staff and work well with the board of directors and executive committee.
Working with the standing councils at the HBAGC as well as other committees as needed is crucial to conducting the various event and educational seminars is vital, so the ability to work collaboratively and bring members together is an important quality.
