Lee University School Of Music To Welcome Thomas And Tingler

Martha Thomas, piano, and Stephanie Tingler, soprano, will perform a recital on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. and hold a masterclass on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Ms. Thomas’ masterclass will take place at 2 p.m. and Ms. Tingler’s will take place at 3:30 p.m. The recital and masterclasses will take place in Squires Recital Hall, in Lee’s Humanities Center. 

The recital will feature pieces such as “City Called Heaven” by Hall Johnson, “Margaret Songs” by Libby Larsen,” “Music I Heard with You” by Richard Hageman, and Lori Laitman’s “Beyond All Price” from “The Scarlet Letter.

Ms. Thomas is the Despy Karlas professor of piano and serves as the associate director for the undergraduate program at the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music.

She maintains an active career as a recitalist and collaborative artist. She gives concerts in countries all over the world, such as Australia, Canada, Italy, Serbia, Spain, and across the United States. Ms. Thomas also appears at concerts and festivals, including the American Liszt Society, College Music Society, InterHarmony International Music Festival, and World Piano Conference. 

In 2012, Ms. Thomas received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Georgia Music Teachers Association. 

Ms. Tingler is currently an associate professor of voice at the University of Georgia, where she teaches applied voice, vocal pedagogy, and literature. This summer, she will join the faculty of the Saarburg International Festival and School in Southern Germany.

Ms. Tingler has appeared in opera, concert, oratorio, and recital throughout Africa, England, Japan, South America, and the U.S.

Most recently, Ms. Thomas and Ms. Tingler have collaborated on a CD, “American Art Songs and Their Poetry,” which was released by Centaur Records in September 2017.
