Emergency responders from federal, state and local agencies will join Tennessee Valley Authority personnel in an emergency preparedness graded exercise involving the Sequoyah nuclear plant on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
The exercise is part of an ongoing series of training drills and exercises required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to ensure an effective and coordinated response to protect the health and safety of the public in the unlikely event of an emergency at Sequoyah.
The exercise will involve hundreds of personnel working in multiple locations, including near the plant.
Residents may see increased vehicle traffic in the local area and hear on- and off-site sirens briefly activated during the exercise.
Results of the exercise will be shared at a public meeting on Friday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m, at TVA’s downtown Chattanooga Offices, in the Missionary Ridge building Tennessee River room.
