Glenn Banther
Reverend Glenn A. Banther, 100, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
He was an associate pastor of Maple Grove Baptist Church where he was a charter member for many years. Also at Maple Grove Church, he was a Sunday School Teacher of the Senior Men’s Class. Mr. Banther was a WWII veteran in the United States Army, serving on the 771st Tank Destroyer Battalion. Among his many decorations, which include the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, two Bronze Service Stars, the American Theatre Medal and the Good Conduct WWII Victory Medal, perhaps the greatest was being awarded the Purple Heart in January of 1945.
Glenn was predeceased by his parents, L.A. and Lou Banther; brothers, Jesse Banther, J.T. Banther, Clyde Banther, Jewell Banther, Clifford Banther; sisters, Marie Banther Roberts, and Mae Banther Prestwood.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen Lee Banther; children, Ronald (Dianne) Banther, Rhonda (Steve) Runyan, Tonya (Steve) Lawrence, Darla (Dewayne) Spurgeon; grandchildren, Daryl Banther, Jamie Runyan Pierce, Kristin (Lawrence) Roark, Mark Hall, Jerry Runyan, Ryan Lawrence, Kimberly Banther, Stephanie Runyan, Noah Spurgeon and Summer Spurgeon; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 14, from 3-8 p.m. at Maple Grove Baptist Church, 9525 Birchwood Pike, Harrison, Tn.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ronnie Dotson, Reverend Stan Braley, and Minister Darryl Orr officiating.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Saturday, starting at noon. The funeral will also be conducted at Maple Grove Baptist Church. Reverend Glenn Banther will be buried at Old McDonald Cemetery with military honors.
