The two southbound lanes on Hixson Pike, after the intersection of Lupton Drive, are closed and only one northbound lane is open after a water main break on Wednesday.
These will remain closed through at least Friday. Vehicles are urged to take an alternate route but a local traffic detour is posted at Lupton Drive.
Rush hour southbound traffic on Thursday should use Ashland Terrace to Highway 27, or Lupton Drive to Dayton Boulevard.
Officials from Tennessee American Water said, "The main break from earlier today is now repaired. The water is being turned back on. Customers who were in the outage area may experience air or discolored water. They should run their COLD tap (one with a strong stream of water like a bathtub or outside faucet works best) until the water runs clear. The two southbound lanes will be detoured. There is one lane of traffic set up going in each direction on northbound side. We expect the road repair to be complete early next week."
Later, there was another break, at Lupton Drive to Van Buren Street, affecting Lupton City and Enclave and Rivermont Elementary and other businesses nearby on Hixson Pike. TAWC officials estimated they would have it fixed by midnight.
