30 years after their creation, with nearly the last twenty of those spent apart, The Smashing Pumpkins came together again for their reunion tour, “Shiny and Oh So Bright,” which made a Friday night stop at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Canadian rock band, Metric opened the show playing a nine song set, including their newest track “Dark Saturday,” which was just officially released last week.
When The Smashing Pumpkins took to the stage featuring founding members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha, the audience was in store for a special set of 31 songs trailing easily into three hours of music.
They played seven tracks from their 1995 album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, including hits “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “Thirty-Three,” and “Muzzle.” The played an equal number of released from their 1993 album, Siamese Dream.
The set also featured four covers including classics “Space Oddity,” “Landslide,” “Stairway to Heaven,” and even the lullaby “Baby Mine” to end their show.
The U.S.
portion of the tour continues into Atlanta on Sunday, July 22, and ends in Denver in September.
