Two people were critically injured, including Capt. Shellie Thorne of the Chattanooga Fire Department and her friend, Jerry White, Jr. in a wreck Thursday evening on Mayflower Road.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the 1400 block of Mayflower Road for the report of an accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

Preliminary reports indicate the driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the motorcycle and turned in front of it.

The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

Bruce Garner of the Chattanooga Fire Department said, "Members of the fire department have been hit hard by this tragedy and we are asking everyone to respect the family's privacy at this time.

"In the meantime, a blood drive has been set up at the Fire Training Center for Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help the captain and the captain's friend.
