Jamal Strickland
Jarvis Appleberry was found early Saturday morning suffering from multiple stab wounds outside Diamond Billiards, located at 3600 Hixson Pike. Mr. Appleberry was rushed into emergency surgery at Erlanger Hospital for life-threatening injuries. Hospital staff advised police that the victim had lost a significant amount of blood and it was unknown if he would survive.
Police said surveillance footage from Diamond Billiards showed Mr. Appleberry get in a physical altercation with a heavy-set male on the sidewalk just outside the front door. Shortly after, Jamal Dewon Strickland turned himself in for the incident.
During an interview with police, Strickland said after he and the victim had gotten into a verbal altercation, Mr. Appleberry approached him on the sidewalk. Strickland said he retrieved his pocket knife, and when the victim swung at him with a fist, he “hit” Mr. Appleberry two or three times with his knife before fleeing.
Strickland was arrested Saturday and charged with aggravated assault.
