An East Ridge man was critically injured in a wreck on Suck Creek Road on Saturday in which another vehicle came across the center line.

Jeffrey Sanders, 41, the front-seat passenger, was unconscious at the scene. Also injured were his wife, Sherrie, and their six-year-old son.

The Sanders family lives on State Line Road.

A Red Bank man is facing multiple charges in the accident.

Chandler Wynn Mauldin, 29, of 2827 Dayton Blvd., was charged with DUI, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident, driving left of center, driving on a revoked license, two counts of reckless aggravated assault, failure to render aid, having no proof of insurance, and violating the implied consent law.

Police said a Lexus SUV traveling south and being driven by Mauldin crossed a double yellow line on the two-lane road and struck a Dodge truck occupied by the Sanders family head on.

Mauldin left the scene and hid behind a nearby building.

Police said after Mauldin was located it was found that he had a strong smell of alcohol, had slurred speech, and had extreme difficulty holding his head up. He refused to have his blood tested, so police did a forced blood draw.

Mauldin declined medical treatment and was taken to jail.
