La Paz Announces Best Sangria Winner

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

La Paz announced the winner of this year’s Best Sangria in Chattanooga contest.

Conga Latin Food is the winner for 2018, after having taken the title in 2017 as well.

René and Alex Hernández manage the restaurant along with their mother, owner Eva Rodriguez.

Natives of El Salvador, the family serves traditional Latin American fare from different parts of the region.

The restaurant is at 26 E. Main Street, where they have been since 2016 after moving from their previous location on 207 E. Main Street.

“We are very honored and grateful for the people of Chattanooga that appreciate the effort we put into our Sangria and food. We have worked with La Paz over 10 years and have seen them grow just like they have seen us grow. We hope to be partners with them for many more years,” the Hernández brothers said.

The Best Sangria in Chattanooga is chosen each year at La Paz’s signature fundraising event.

Guests of the event receive voting tickets and are asked to sample each of the sangrias from participating restaurants.

Fellow participants from this year were Mexiville, Embargo ‘62 and St. John’s Meeting Place, the latter two being winners in previous years. 181 guests voted, with Conga being first at 92 votes. The runner-up was Mexiville with 48 votes.

Sangria on the Bluff is La Paz's annual cultural event highlighting Latino and Hispanic heritage. The Hunter Museum has served as the venue for the fundraiser for the past two years.
