John Feller

John T. Feller of Signal Mountain died on May 20, 2018.

He was born in Fayetteville, Tn., on June 7, 1920, to the late John and Mary (Beard) Feller. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Europe with the 2nd Armored Division in the Normandy Invasion and the drive to Berlin. Upon release from the Army he returned to college and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Engineering. After working in Chattanooga for a short time, he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. After this tour of duty he joined the active reserve and retired with the rank of Colonel. He retired from Combustion Engineering.

John is survived by his wife, Glenna; a daughter, Sally Hamby (Donald Hamby M.D.) and a son, John “Jack” Feller (Anne) of Birmingham; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Fred Feller of Speedwell, Tn., and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; five sisters, Mary (Hubert) Bailey of Ewing, Va., Margaret Wampler of Chattanooga, Clara (JD) Ellison of Ewing, Va., Willie (Harlan) McKnight of Onsted, MI, Hazel (Jerry) Chadwell of Ewing, and Joanne Feller of Adrian, Mi., and one brother, Hubert (Kay) Feller of Monroe, Mi.

John was a long time member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church and the Becking Bible Class. He was an avid golfer and a member of Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club where he served as an officer and board member for many years. He also served as volunteer project engineer when the course was redone several years ago.

Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church Marr Chapel on Thursday, May 24, at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the church or Hospice of Chattanooga.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
