District 8 Voters Rendered Their Opinion On UnifiEd - And Response

  • Friday, May 18, 2018

On or about April 13, the field teams of UnifiEd's paid staffers started knocking on the doors of voters in District 8 advocating for East Ridge Mayor Brent Lambert and others. At that very moment the brand UnifiEd carefully built since 2014 began to unravel. Over the next 17 days, UnifiEd was an incredible boost to my campaign as the conservative voters of District 8 realized the liberalism being peddled on their doorsteps. As a counter measure to UnifiEd's efforts, my campaign began to post information on Facebook about UnifiEd.  Check out the posts issued on April 13, April 18, twice on April 21, April 24, April 30, and May 1. The efforts of the UnifiEd field teams coincided with the publication of the APEX Project report. The return on UnifiEd's investment in the District 8 primary came back from the voters on May 1 when the UnifiEd candidate went down in flames as I won the Republican Primary by a margin of almost 2 to 1.

When I spoke to my fellow commissioners, County Mayor Coppinger, and the citizens of Hamilton County this past Wednesday about UnifiEd, and what we have learned over the past month or so, I used my Commission seat to speak the truth about UnifiEd from my perspective as a conservative Hamilton County citizen.  May 1, the voters of District 8 rendered their verdict on UnifiEd, and Wednesday morning, I spoke on their behalf.

Thanks again to all of my supporters in District 8 and for your confidence in having me represent you for another four years.

Tim Boyd
County Commissioner
District 8

* * *

Over the past few years I have been an active participant in local politics from forced annexation to questionable zoning issues. I have helped with the election of several politicians both physically and financially. As a result of that involvement I know many, many of them personally, some became close friends, and naturally some have not.

As I attended and even spoke up at many County Commission meetings, I noticed one commissioner in particular that seemed to have always "done his homework" on issues before this body of representatives. Oh, I have heard all the comments and have even seen the eyes of commissioners "rolling" as Commissioner Tim Boyd went into lengthy detail and background on something they were about to vote on. I for one would rather have elected officials subject their votes to "the rigors of sunlight" than question as to whether a quick vote was influenced by the well connected or campaign contributions. We have all heard the term "that's just politics" over the years, and know perfectly what that means.

I have come to respect the honest personal convictions that a man like Commissioner Tim Boyd brings to his office, and was sickened by the predictable "last minute" smear campaign brought by office holders and those within the UnifiED movement that in my opinion represent the very worst of liberalism and it's attempt to destroy the traditional focus of education on "reading, writing, and arithmetic".

Thank you again, Commissioner Boyd, for your dedication to "good government".  And thank you the voters of District 8 that stood behind this good man.  You saw thru the disgusting attack on Commissioner Boyd's character, unlike some of his colleagues that took the easy route and said "Oh, I can't get involved or be seen supporting you". I always thought we had the presumption of innocence in this country. But again like the "boiling frog" politics can change even the best of us.
