TWRA Plans Another Wounded Warrior Deer Hunt At Enterprise South Nature Park

  • Wednesday, May 16, 2018

The TWRA is planning another Wounded Warrior deer hunt at Enterprise South Nature Park.

Wildlife Officer Ben Layton told members of the County Commission that the deer herd at the park still needs some thinning based on parasite counts from the stomachs of deer as well as visual counts using thermal imaging.

He noted there were prior hunts and by 2016 it appeared the situation was in check. The latest data points to again a need for a hunt, he said.

County Mayor Jim Coppinger said over 150,000 visitors a year make use of the park.

He asked what other wildlife can be found there - "other than turkeys and snakes."

Officer Layton said an occasional bear may pass through, and he said the park has some coyotes.
