Lee Archaeology Students Excavate Old Main

  • Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Lee University’s Introduction to Archaeology class conducted a hands-on dig on April 13-14, with the instruction of Dr. Richard Jones and Dr. Murl Dirksen, both professors of anthropology at Lee.

Students excavated three predetermined spots where the north end of Old Main was located, the multi-purpose structure formerly used by Lee College on the front of campus. Lee’s Higginbotham Administration Building now covers most of the Old Main site.

Students found bits of broken brick and glass, along with some old nails, all of which are remains of Old Main.
