Weather Channel Correspondent Hunkered Down In Chattanooga, But Storm Stayed Mainly To The Southwest

A Weather Channel correspondent hunkered down in Chattanooga on Monday night as a fierce storm approached. A Weather Channel anchor termed it "a rough night in the Scenic City," but the main area of damage kept to the southwest..

Reynolds Wolf said he, along with his cameraman and producer, were ready to take shelter in their nearby hotel should the storm become dangerous.

He said at 8:15 p.m. that the skies were calm at the time, but the radar showed trouble ahead.

The storm, carrying some tornadoes and large hail, was along the Alabama-Tennessee border, including Arab, Ala. It was at Boaz, Ala., by 8:40 p.m.  By 9 p.m., it was approaching Rome, Ga. and Cedartown before veering toward Marietta and Atlanta..

Chattanooga went under a Severe Storm Warning around 9:30 p.m. as heavy rain, lightning and thunder entered downtown before blowing past..

A number of Monday night events were canceled in anticipation of the storm.
